brown can father a child in office at 68 years old and did not get a slap on the rest, gavin newsom had an affair in the office and to drugs and alcohol and not a slap on the rest. how can you call this misconduct by comparison? how can you sit there and judge this man? this is wrong, from beginning to end. [applause] please, use your good judgment and weigh the facts. this is not official misconduct. it is not violence. because i have a little bruise on my arm from something else, that is no proof. you were not there. you did not see how hard it was or how little it wise. some people breeze very easily. that is no proof of violence. this is not justice. if willie brown and gavin newsom, the mayor, could get away with that -- [tone] and here you are trying to make -- lay this mantle on him, and reasonable. think of your conscience. but what if you were in that position? it is not fair. you have to legalize the justice scales, right? i'm not a lawyer, but i know a lot about the law. so do your job and tell this man he is to report for work as soon as possible. would do that. let's bring in gavin newsom, the lt. governor of california. he also happens to be the host of the gavin newsom show on current. will you look at that? yeah. all right so gavin, talking about how the republicans are trying to block what san bernardino is doing. >> i agree with everything you said. here in california, we have 2 million homes of those almost 16 million homes underwater across the country. you get to places like san bernardino, 16% unemployment. we have some counties today in california with 29.9% unemployment imperial here in california. we are not going to recover. the economy in this country i do not believe is going to recover as it should without dealing with this problem in a substantive way. we can play on the margins but at the end of the day we've got to help people help themselves by getting out from under these mortgages, so you have leaders in places like san bernardino county and places across the country taking the laws on the books and saying you know what, we can take this eminent dough nine process which legally afford us the opp

for a number of years. i had the privilege of working with gavin newsom in the past to during his administration to create the electric vehicle infrastructure for the city and began the conversation and the collaboration with the other counties to bring an electric vehicle corridor. it signals our efforts to support the creation of infrastructure to the electric vehicle industry. of course we have encouraged the private automobile creators to join us. today is a wonderful opportunity to do that with a bmw. any of you who noticed the labels in this city, you will certainly noticed the popularity of bmw as a corporation, not only a great company but one that is also on the cutting edge of the use of technology. i want to thank them and welcome them to not only the electric vehicle stage, which they have been working on, but also to this great program they are about to introduce, the drive now and park now technology. joined -- joining us in the car sharing program for their members who want to use bmw products. this idea of cars sharing has been a part of san francisco's objective i

- mayor gavin newsom asked what we have learned. he allowed me to develop the programs with the emergency management and a host of different departments to introduce a bigger emphasis on preparing for and implementing a recovery and making resilience and recovery more the norm of how we do things in our city. çq levels of response we have. we created new relationships with established agencies, the red cross, the apartment building inspection, the planning department. but most importantly, we created a spiritç that is very consistt with fema'sçç national disastr recovery from work. you have to start building capacity in your communitims. you cannot abandon them in the time of need. the only way you doç that is to create those relationships now. you do not have to talk about disasterç and to use that wordn every conversation to get them better prepared. you can talk about mitigation, how the neighbors come together and did greener, how they help us to create bike paths and build affordable housing. when you create those relationship with the different communities in our city a

francisco, gavin newsom said the project is on shaky ground. why did it never work? why was there bad blood? >> the biggest thing in san francisco, the infrastructure just didn't exist. so it is easy to say, you know, let's blame gavin newsom it was jeb and gavin. there were some things we did wrong. there were some things he did wrong. ultimately when you don't have the infrastructure to support a big project like this, that's what killed the deal. >> is it difficult to deal with the fans who are priced out of coming here? >> when club seats are the first that go on sale, you read wow, an $80,000 seat license, i'm scared. that's what everybody has to pay. that is not the case. you can't let the media or reports that are driven to sort of get a headline and sensation, really deter you from the facts. that's why we have take in a really, really, careful effort and approach to meet with every single season tick it holder face to face. let them know what their options are. >> you kept the door open for the raiders, still a possibility? >> there is still an opportunity for this to be a two team

governor apparently dropped a bit of a bomb shell >> gavin newsom was an early hillary supporter so he did not get a big high-profile speaking gig and he was kind of chill and did not make a big fuss for himself but he did manage to tell a reporter that he would run for governor in 2014 if jerry brown is not running. it is just such a no-no for two reasons. jerry brown will certainly run for reelection barring some sort of crazy catastrophe. no. 2, it is bad form. you don't say that you are going to run for your boss is seat. just keep it set if you want your boss's job, and he went there >> did it just slipped out or did he just say it? >> he was talking to reporters and it was not as if someone overheard him. he knew what he was doing. >> another rising star is the l.a. mayor >> antonio villaraigosa was the chair and speaking of people who want to run for governor, he has made no bones about the fact that he wants to be gov. jerry brown's opponent, not opponent but will follow him whenever jerry brown has turned out. he spent four days or so wheen mayors from all over the state and as th

then mayor good gavin newsom -- i'm sorry-excuse me, i missed a question here. my apologies. okay. this yes is for mr. everett, miss olague and miss selby. this is where i want to be. >> okay. >> thank you. again for mr. everett, miss olague and my selby. over the years there have been various proposals to allow non-citizen members of san francisco to vote in city elections. in your opinion, which city elections, if any, should be open to participation by non-citizen residents and which non-citizen residents should be allowed to vote in those elections? >> the harsh reality is that so many non-citizens still have children in our public schools here in san francisco, throughout the state of california and throughout the united states. as all of you undoubtedly know. with that being said, it's vitally important that those parents still have a say in the education of their children. i would certainly support and promote voting by those parents in school board elections in san francisco. by implication own a community college election would fit in that rubric, to support college advancement t

been appointed interim mayor in january when his predecessor gavin newsom was sworn in as lieutenant governor. a long time city employee and city administer, he's the first asian-american mayor of san francisco. while his style may be less flamboyant than some of his predecessors, there has been plenty of excitement during his first year in office. i spoke with mayor lee earlier. welcome mayor ed lee. good to have you on the program. let's start on the high note. okay. if you had the opportunity to name the thing that you are most proud of after becoming the mayor, what would it be? >> i've worked really hard on just trying to create, invest confidence in the city, restore back the economic recovery. it's so important for our cities across the country, including san francisco to work hard at our economics. so when i was interim mayor last year, we did pension reform. that was extremely important. we had to really gain leverage and control around that. i closed a $385 million budget deficit. found ourselves a great police chief. there's this little company called twitter, 450 people a

to newspapers establish credibility? i saw this news reporter who put a piece on youtube about gavin newsom just walking away. so how did these organizations establish credibility? how are people able to see the problems with bias that will never come up? there is also a problem with advertisers, backers. a millionaire putting $500,000 or $1 million into a newspaper, and he will expect something in return. he may not want his coverage to be negative. so there are all these things. i wondered if anybody had any general comments about those. >> that is a really difficult problem. if we think about the way we understand journalism today, it really is an historical aberration. that is not cutting back. we had objective journalism, which created shared narratives, but the truth is what we only saw was the narrative from a particular perspective. now, we have chaos. i'm not saying that is not a problem, but on the other hand, we need to think about the fact that we have a lot more voices and a lot more information, and we need to develop citizens that understand not only how to read a news story and u
